The Serenity Prayer

At this time in my life, for things I am going through and may be facing, this prayer is poignant.

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

Happy Easter

As Christians, today is a day of celebration. We celebrate the rising from the dead of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We humbly thank him for taking the awful punishment of our sins onto himself. By the grace of God, I am saved. By the blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, I am washed clean of sin.

As a woman, this glorious day has a special meaning for me also: My savior chose to appear to women (or a woman) at the Resurrection. He gave them the instructions to spread the word of His rising. The Good News was first given to women and they were made the first of the disciples. Beings that were treated as mere property, or less, were trusted by God to tell this magnificent news. And even though they were not believed, they fulfilled their commission as commanded by Jesus.

Matthew 28
8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

Mark 16: 9-11
9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him and who were morning and weeping. 11 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.

Luke 24
9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

John 20
13 They asked her, "Women, why are you crying?" "They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
12 "Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him."
16 Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher)
17 Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her.

May you know the peace of forgiveness and the grace of God.
Have a blessed Easter.

Soulful Sunday

What spoke to me today?

From Pastor Rick: Partial truth is not truth. Partial obedience is not obedience.

MP 13 rocked today, as usual...
"Everlasting God"
"God You Reign"
"Exalted (Yahweh)"

These were very moving and spirit invoking today. Raise those hands in glory to God!

Just in passing:
I told a lady good morning and that it was a beautiful day. She looked at me like I was deranged and laughingly said, "It's raining." My reply? "I woke up this morning. It's a beautiful day." Now at the moment it was pouring outside and very 'yucky.' But now as I look outside, the sun's shining, it's warm and breezy and a perfect spring day. Even in the storm and rain clouds, God's beauty was shining through for me today.

Thank you, Lord, for letting me see the beauty in the storm. Sometimes it's so much easier to see blessings from You when the sun is shining down bright upon us but never let me forget, You are there in good weather and bad. No matter what I go through, You are there, my defender and comforter. My solace and Savior. You have always been here, are here and will always be here. Lifting Your name in praise, Amen.

Praying Before Eating

Ever notice how we either get in a rut or go over-board when we pray before eating. You know what I mean. You either get the two line by memorized, not paying attention or you get cold food. So I wanted to some up with something relatively short and not to hard to learn "still working on that part, though).

Lord, I thank you for another day,
for a family that loves,
and the meal that brings us together.
I know You are with us
and I ask that we be guided by Your will.
May we grow steadily in Your love,
be sheltered by Your grace
and forever saved by Your forgiveness.
In Your precious name, I pray. Amen.

Happy New Year

My prayer for us all:

May the coming year bring you peace and love.
May you enjoy good health
and the comfort of good friends.
May your family draw closer.

Pray for our leaders for the troubled times ahead.
Pray for our soldiers, some going for the second or third time.
Pray for our economy and our environment.
Pray for each other.

Give to someone in need.
Give to your church.
Give to your community.
Give to your family.

Best wishes for the coming year
and God Bless.

A Belated Christmas Prayer

12/25/08
As the sun rose on this Christmas morning, the most powerful energy source in our solar system, I realized something extraordinary: It was nothing compared to the light that came into the world over 2,000 years ago. With the birth of a child, darkness had been banished forever, not just a few hours a day.

"In the beginning, there was the Word
And the Word became Flesh."

Heavenly Father, Yours is the power and the glory.
You don't need anything from us - You Are.
But You gave us a gift today:
A gift of Your Love.
A gift more precious than any possession,
Any job,
Than even the family gathered here.

You gave us an infant that would save the world.
You gave us a brother, a shepherd, a king.
A Savior I personally never deserved.
A Savior that walked the earth,
That died so I can be with You....forever.

In Jesus' name I pray:
Let us humbly serve You,
Praise You continually
And love one another as commanded.
Let my feet follow Your path,
My hands do Your work,
And my voice make a joyful noise to You.
Amen.

A Request

A good friend and co-worker could use your thoughts and prayers. S and J were happily blessed 3 days ago with their first child, W. She called me today with the news they will be taking their little boy to Kings Daughter's hopital tonight. He is running a high fever and they don't know what's wrong with him. She and her husband are very distraught and could use as much love and support as possible.
Thank you for your prayers.

Update 10/24/08:
Baby boy W is home and healthy with two very happy and relieved parents. He has gained enough weight to pass his birth weight and is no longer jaundiced. Thanks for all the prayers and best wishes.
